Karuizawa whisky is whisky produced at the Karuizawa Distillery in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The Karuizawa Distillery was established in 1955 and produced very high quality single malt whisky from the 1990s to the early 2000s. However, production stopped in 2000 and the distillery closed in 2011. As a result, Karuizawa whisky has become very rare and expensive.

2. Mercian: Mercian is a subsidiary of Kirin Holdings and was the owner of the Karuizawa Distillery. Mercian still produces wine and other alcoholic beverages, but is especially prized for its Karuizawa whiskey.

3. 15 Years Aged EX 100% Malt: This whiskey is made from 100% malt and aged in oak barrels for 15 years. The long aging period brings out the deep flavor and complex aroma.

4. Tasting notes:

• Nose: Rich and fruity aroma, with sweet notes of dried fruit, honey and vanilla. You can also sense the slightly smoky aroma that is unique to Karuizawa whiskey.
• Palate: When you put it in your mouth, the deep, rich flavor of aging spreads. The flavors of dried fruit, toffee and nuts are well balanced, and you can also feel the spice and woody nuances from the oak barrels.
