"Yoichi Coal Direct-Fired Distillation" is a single malt whiskey produced at Nikka Whisky's Yoichi Distillery. This whiskey is produced using a unique method called traditional coal direct-fire distillation, and its production method and flavor are highly regarded by many whiskey lovers.

About Yoichi Distillery

Yoichi Distillery was established in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru. Masataka Taketsuru is known as the father of Japanese whisky and learned whisky-making techniques in Scotland and brought them back to Japan. He established a distillery in Yoichi because of its similar climate and natural environment to Scotland.

About direct coal-fired distillation

"Direct coal fire distillation" is a method of directly heating a pot still with a coal fire. This is a traditional method in Scotland, and is now very rare. Direct coal fire distillation is time-consuming, but this method gives whiskey its unique smoky flavor and depth.

Yoichi Single Malt - Features of direct coal-fired distillation

   • It has a well-balanced aroma of smoky peat, vanilla, dried fruit and nuts.

   • It has a complex and deep flavor that combines peat smoke, sweet malt, ripe fruit, spices and oak.

4. Alcohol content :

   • Generally it's around 43%, but the details can vary from bottle to bottle.

   • The most common size is 700ml, but 500ml bottles are also available.
