Rosso di Montalcino is a red wine made in the Montalcino region of Tuscany, Italy, and is considered the "younger" version of Brunello di Montalcino. This wine is also made from the Sangiovese Grosso grapes, but is generally intended to be drunk young, and is often released to the market sooner after a short barrel aging period.
"Poggio di Sotto" is one of the wineries highly regarded for winemaking in the Montalcino region. Poggio di Sotto's "Rosso di Montalcino 2016" has the following characteristics:
- Flavor : Rosso has a flavor similar to Brunello, but is often fresher and more fruit-forward, often exhibiting flavors of red fruits, spices, and floral aromas.
- Structure : The tannins are soft and the mouthfeel is smooth. It is often lighter and easier to drink than Brunello.
- Ageing : Rosso di Montalcino often undergoes a short period of barrel ageing and can therefore be drunk sooner than Brunello.
This wine is also ideal for pairing with food, and will be particularly well-suited to traditional Tuscan dishes such as pappa al pomodoro (tomato and bread soup), risotto, and grilled red meat.
